Alaska is officially the first state to allow cannabis consumption at dispensaries. Beginning on April, 11th licensed cannabis dispensaries will be able to apply for the new permits. The permits will allow cannabis customers to purchase the meds and safely consume them on premise too.

Under the new rules, the consumption areas will have to be physically separated from the retail section by a wall or secured door. They will also be required to ventilate smoking areas properly.

This is great news for cannabis users in Alaska, and other states have started to look into allowing the consumption lounges as well.

As a cannabis patient, I often find myself wanting a safe place to medicate other than my own home. Alaska’s new legislation could be a good model for other states to follow.
